Overview

The 2010 “General Technology Concept to Company” competition will focus on new product or service ideas in the tech industry. The main objective of the contest is to encourage and support entrepreneurial innovators with the intent of helping them turn their concepts into a company.

The contest is organized and hosted by Grow Utah Ventures and Zions Bank. The premier sponsors of each contest are USTAR, Workman Nydegger, CFO Solutions and Ballard Spahr. Many industry experts and business leaders from Utah’s tech industry will also contribute their time and resources.

Who Can Apply? Generally, the competition is open to any Utah-based entrepreneurs and small businesses with a product or service innovation in the tech industry. However, click here to see the complete RULESand qualifications. Because this particular contest is meant to spur innovation in Southern Utah, a 30 point preference will be given to entries from Washington, Kane, Iron, Garfield, Beaver, Millard, Sanpete, Sevier, Wayne, Paiute or Juab counties.

What Do I Win? The winning entry will receive up to a $35,000 award, comprised of $10,000 in cash and $25,000 in services to help bring the idea to fruition. Two runner-up winners will receive awards up to $17,000 each comprised of cash and services. In addition, all finalists will enjoy a rare opportunity to present their ideas to industry leaders and form possible strategic relationships that would otherwise not happen.

How Do I Enter? To enter, first read through the FAQ’s and Contest Rules to make sure you're eligible. Then complete and submit your entry form by March 14, 2010 (11:59 pm).


Timeline Of Events:
Entry Submission: January 13th, 2010 – March 14th, 2010

Initial Screening: The initial screening will take place from March 15-26th. During that time, participants may be asked to send additional information to the judging committee.

Finalists Chosen:: By March 26th, 2010 a group of finalists will be chosen to present their innovations to a panel of judges. The finalists will be notified and given details regarding their final presentation. Those who are not chosen as finalists will also be sent an e-mail indicating such.

Finalists Presentations: On April 9th, 2010, the finalists and judges will meet in St. George for the final presentations. Presentations will be given throughout the day and the judges will ask questions and rank the innovations. After the last presentation, the judges will meet and select three winners.

Award Presentation: The winners will be announced and awards given at the end of the day of judging on April 9th, 2010 at approximately 4:00pm.

Location:All activities will take place in St. George including the final presentations and awards ceremony.
